About the Role

The principal objective of the role is to be responsible for the mechanical engineering and management of all technical issues associated with client purchase order for the supply of MV/LV switchgear.

The role forms part of a broader engineering team and thus will have support from other members of the team.

  • Assist Switchgear Applications Engineers with project specific mechanical designs. This may include, but not be limited to:
    • Transformer enclosures, arc-duct, bus-duct connections, electro-mechanical layouts, termination enclosures, non-standard cubicle / tier assemblies, etc.
  • Assist Switchgear Application Engineers with the production of sub-supplier material requisitions for processing by others. This may be linked to the above mechanical designs, e.g. power transformers, bus-duct, etc.
  • Assist Switchgear Application Engineers with the creation and maintenance of project specific standard designs (typically LV compartment layouts and cubicle/tier design).
  • Assist Switchgear Application Engineers with the creation and maintenance of standard device inserter libraries (including protection relays, lamps, switches, etc.)
  • Liaison with the client on certain technical matters relating to the purchase order, with support by the Switchgear Applications Engineers and Switchgear Design & Development.
  • Liaison with other internal departments, as required, to assist the Switchgear Applications Engineers in ensuring that the requirements of the purchase order are met.
  • Ensuring departmental performance to a standard which satisfies internal and external customer requirements.
  • Help to train/coach Technicians and Apprentices and drive improvements and efficiencies within the role.
  • Act as a technical specialist or advisor within the team.
  • Liaise with clients and contractors as required.

Key Skills and Experience Required

  • A good technical background
  • The ability to effectively communicate using both verbal and written communication that delivers high levels of confidence in those dealt with.
  • The ability to work effectively both individually and importantly as a team member.
  • The ability to meet the expectation of both internal and external customers, clients, and suppliers through a sound understanding of their requirements, being responsive to their needs, and exceeding their requirements.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement.

Essential

  • Skilled in AutoCAD and 3D Inventor
  • Minimum of HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Computer literate with a good grasp of Microsoft Office (Word / Excel / Outlook)
  • Relevant Industry experience (Typically 2-5 Years)

Desirable

  • Ideally experience within a Control Panel/Switchgear environment.
  • Degree qualified in engineering discipline (with a mechanical bias)
  • Elementary knowledge of Inventor iLogic.
  • Basic understanding of Electrical Engineering
