The Opportunity

The North West is home to some of the UK's most exciting water infrastructure programmes, and Stantec is helping deliver projects that will improve resilience, protect the environment and provide reliable water services for future generations. Through our long-standing partnership with United Utilities, we're delivering major treatment works, pumping stations and network improvements that are helping transform water and wastewater infrastructure across the region.

We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Water team in Manchester or Warrington. This is an excellent opportunity to take the next step in your career, leading the delivery of mechanical engineering design while working alongside experienced multidisciplinary teams on nationally significant AMP8 programmes.

Working With Us, You'll Have The Opportunity To

  • Lead the delivery of mechanical engineering design packages across major water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Take ownership of projects from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support.
  • Mentor and support developing engineers while continuing to strengthen your own technical leadership.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative engineering solutions.
  • Build your career within one of the UK's leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancies.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll play a leading role in delivering mechanical engineering solutions across a diverse portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, ensuring high-quality technical outputs throughout every stage of project delivery.

You Will

  • Lead mechanical design activities across water and wastewater treatment works, pumping stations and associated infrastructure.
  • Produce and review mechanical calculations, technical specifications, reports and engineering documentation.
  • Deliver projects from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers while contributing to technical excellence across the team.
  • Develop strong working relationships with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

YOUR IMPACT

Your work will directly contribute to the successful delivery of infrastructure that improves water resilience, supports environmental performance and provides long-term value for communities across the North West.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
