There’s a lot happening at Emtec Building Services right now. With new projects mobilising and a strong pipeline of secured work ahead, we’re continuing to strengthen our pre-construction team and are looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join us.
This is a key role within the team, giving you the opportunity to get involved at the very early stages of projects and help shape how they come together commercially and technically.
You’ll take the lead on mechanical estimates from initial enquiry through to tender submission, working closely with our pre-construction, commercial and delivery teams to put together competitive, well-considered bids and help turn opportunities into live projects.
Emtec Building Services delivers mechanical and electrical solutions across a wide range of commercial, industrial and public sector projects, supporting clients from early design and pre-construction right through to delivery and commissioning.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Preparing detailed mechanical estimates and tender submissions across a range of projects.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documents to fully understand scope and requirements.
- Producing accurate take-offs, cost plans and pricing schedules.
- Obtaining and assessing quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Identifying risks, opportunities and potential challenges at tender stage.
- Working closely with the wider pre-construction, commercial and delivery teams to develop the best approach for each bid.
- Leading or supporting tender submissions depending on project size and complexity.
- Supporting tender reviews and internal approval processes.
- Maintaining accurate pricing information and estimating data.
- Using your technical and commercial knowledge to help strengthen bids and support future opportunities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
