About The Role
A Senior Mechanical Fitter – Rotating & Vibratory Machinery is sought in Newhall for a full-time, permanent post paying £38,000 to £55,000 yearly. The successful candidate strips, inspects, repairs, and rebuilds industrial rotating and vibratory equipment, splitting time between precision workshop overhauls and site attendance across the UK. Diagnosing faults and responding to emergency breakdowns form a central part of the work, so proven experience with similar plant is essential. Strong mechanical fitting abilities, precision measurement, fault-finding skills, and a willingness to travel are required. This position suits a capable engineer who takes satisfaction in solving complicated machinery issues and delivering dependable results for clients.
Are you an experienced Mechanical Fitter who enjoys getting to the root of complex machinery problems? We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established specialist engineering business looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Fitter to join their growing team.
This isn't just another maintenance role. You'll work on a variety of industrial rotating and vibratory machinery, combining precision workshop overhauls with hands-on engineering at customer sites across the UK.
From stripping and rebuilding machinery to investigating faults and supporting emergency breakdowns, you'll have the opportunity to use your technical expertise in a genuinely varied role.
What Will You Be Doing?
As Senior Mechanical Fitter, you will:
- Strip, inspect, repair, service, and rebuild industrial rotating and vibratory machinery.
- Work on equipment including machine tools, bespoke machinery, gearboxes, and pumps.
- Carry out machinery inspections and identify wear, vibration, defects, and potential failures.
- Diagnose complex mechanical faults and conduct root-cause failure analysis.
- Complete high-quality machinery overhauls within a fully equipped workshop environment.
- Use precision measuring equipment including micrometres, verniers, and dial test indicators.
- Carry out shaft alignment checks and use contact blue checking techniques.
- Correctly remove and install precision high-speed bearings and mechanical sealing systems.
- Attend customer sites for installations, commissioning, servicing, and breakdown support.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, cross-sectional schematics, and manufacturer manuals.
- Communicate confidently with customers, explaining technical issues and required repairs.

What Are We Looking For?
We're looking for somebody who is technically strong, takes pride in their work, and genuinely enjoys investigating how and why machinery has failed.
Ideally, You Will Have
- A minimum of 5 years' experience within a relevant industrial engineering environment.
- Extensive hands-on mechanical fitting experience.
- Strong experience stripping, inspecting, repairing, and rebuilding industrial machinery.
- Previous experience working with rotating and/or vibratory equipment.
- Excellent mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting abilities.
- Confidence working to fine tolerances using precision measuring equipment.
- Experience working across both workshop and field-service environments.
- A strong understanding of engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- The ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
- Excellent health and safety awareness.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to represent the business professionally at customer sites.

Qualifications
Candidates should be time-served and fully qualified as a Mechanical Fitter/Technician, ideally holding a City & Guilds Level 3, NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering or Maintenance, or an equivalent qualification.
An ONC/HNC in Mechanical Engineering would be highly desirable, although strong practical experience will be heavily valued.
A full, clean UK driving licence is essential due to the field-service element of the position.
Additional qualifications such as Confined Space, Working at Heights, FLT, or Slinging & Lifting would also be advantageous.
