Join us as a Senior Mechanical/Structural Engineer at our Gosport (Haslar) site, where you’ll work with advanced technology in partnership with some of the brightest minds.
The Role
As a Senior Mechanical/Structural Engineer, reporting to the Principal Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing, analysing, and delivering complex components and assemblies from initial concept to testing and final production.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical projects focusing on structural design of submarine propulsors, collaborating with cross-functional teams on complex multi-material assemblies for demanding environments.
- Apply sound engineering judgement to troubleshoot and solve problems while breaking down complex tasks and executing well-structured schedules.
- Work closely with project management teams to oversee and control technical deliverables.
- Develop and mentor talent, improving knowledge sharing across engineering and technical communities.
- Foster collaboration within QinetiQ and engage with partner organisations to refine joint technical strategies for business growth.
- Ensure safety compliance, identifying hazards and upholding company/regulatory processes.
- Act as a peer reviewer for technical programmes and maintain consistent governance across projects.

Essential Experience Required
- Strong expertise in mechanical/structural engineering, including design processes and manufacturing.
- Thorough understanding of safety regulations and industry standards (Maritime, Defence, or Civil).
- Proficient in CAD software, particularly Siemens NX or SolidWorks.
- Experience designing metallic and composite structures.
- Competency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for complex systems.
Essential Qualifications
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent demonstrated experience.

Role Details
- Working arrangement: 37-hourweek, based at Haslar site with a minimum of three days/weeksite attendance.
- Location: Haslar Marine Technology Park, featuring state-of-the-art facilities, including an ocean basin rotating arm and marine towing tank, for testing marine designs.
- Work: Delivering constrained hydrodynamic model tests for submarines, surface ships, offshore structures, and renewable energy devices.
