About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical & Electronics Engineer to help develop the integrated systems at the heart of our next-generation molecular sensing platform.

This is a highly hands-on role spanning CAD design, microfluidic systems, cartridge development, electromechanical integration, scripting and test-fixture qualification. You will translate laboratory prototypes into compact, reliable and repeatable sensing devices.

The central challenge is bringing mechanical, fluidic and electrical components together into reliable systems while balancing performance, miniaturisation, cost and future manufacturability. You will have significant ownership of detailed designs, component integration, experimental rigs and the methods used to demonstrate system performance.

About Us

We are a stealth, venture-backed and grant-funded deep-tech company developing a proprietary photonic sensing platform. We are backed by a leading European venture fund, experienced health-tech investors and strategic operators, alongside significant non-dilutive funding from SPRIND, Germany’s Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovation.

Our mission is to make molecular changes measurable through miniaturised, low-cost and low-power photonic sensing technology, initially focused on healthcare applications.

As we move from laboratory development towards integrated devices, we are expanding a multidisciplinary team spanning photonics, chemistry, biosensing, microfluidics and engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design: Independently design and iterate parts and assemblies using CAD, preferably SolidWorks, for cartridges, fluidic interfaces, fixtures and integrated devices.
  • System architecture: Develop system architecture diagrams, system decompositions and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), translating requirements into clear subsystem designs and interfaces.
  • Microfluidic development: Design, build and troubleshoot microfluidic systems and cartridge-based components, evaluating fluid handling, sealing and repeatability.
  • Electromechanical integration: Select and integrate pumps, valves, motors, linear actuators, probes and sensors into functional experimental and product-development systems.
  • Scripting and hardware control: Use Python and practical control scripts to operate electrical components, automate test sequences and acquire and analyse data.
  • Test fixtures and qualification: Design, build and qualify test fixtures and test coupons, establishing test methods and acceptance criteria with the relevant technical teams.
  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis: Investigate mechanical, fluidic and electrical faults, identify underlying causes and verify corrective actions.
  • Cross-functional integration: Work with photonics, electronics, chemistry and biosensing colleagues to resolve interfaces and translate assay requirements into engineering solutions.
  • Development documentation: Maintain clear design records, test results and technical decisions that support repeatable development and future verification and validation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
