Senior Media Relations Executive

Location: Tamworth

Salary: Up to £37,000

Role Type: Fully office-based

Not content, not social media. Just media relations, press office and PR.

It seems surprisingly rare to find a role where you can genuinely focus on these core elements of communications, but we’ve taken on a brilliant opportunity with a global B2B organisation. Despite incredible growth over the last decade, this privately owned, family-run business has stayed true to its roots. The owners take real pride in being involved, knowing their people and creating a business where staff genuinely matter. Don’t worry, though — they’re not the interfering type!

This is a fully office-based role, so we appreciate it won’t appeal to everyone. But if you can see past that, you’ll find a genuinely caring, ambitious business with a great reputation and plenty to shout about.

The Role

Reporting to the Group Marketing Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering media relations activity across a group of established businesses. Working closely with the wider marketing team, you’ll have the scope to influence PR strategy, build relationships with industry media and protect and enhance the organisation’s reputation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Media relations strategy: Developing and delivering proactive and reactive media plans aligned with wider business objectives.
  • Press office management: Taking ownership of media enquiries, coordinating responses and ensuring journalists receive timely, accurate information.
  • PR and copywriting: Creating compelling press releases, thought-leadership articles, technical features, case studies, business updates and award submissions.
  • Media relationships: Building strong relationships with journalists, editors and key trade publications, identifying stories and securing quality coverage.
  • Reputation management: Monitoring media coverage, competitor activity and emerging issues, helping to manage reputational risks and crisis communications when required.
  • Planning and collaboration: Working with stakeholders across the business to uncover stories, coordinate PR activity and maintain consistent messaging.
  • Brand development: Identifying opportunities to raise the profile of the group and its individual businesses across relevant industry media.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We’re Looking For

  • Excellent copywriting skills, with experience producing engaging, accurate editorial and feature content for trade media.
  • Established relationships with journalists, editors and relevant industry publications.
  • The ability to develop and deliver communications plans, rather than simply following a brief.
  • Confidence managing media enquiries, prioritising competing demands and handling sensitive issues appropriately.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and build relationships across a business.
  • A proactive approach to finding stories and opportunities that enhance brand reputation.

Experience in the construction or electrical sectors would be useful, as would knowledge of crisis communications and reputational risk management. A relevant degree in PR, journalism or communications would be advantageous, but practical experience is key.

The Opportunity

If you’re looking for a role where media relations is genuinely at the heart of what you do — rather than one small part of a much broader content or digital marketing remit — this is well worth exploring.

You’ll be joining an established, growing international business that values its people, takes pride in what it does and offers the opportunity to make a real contribution to its reputation and communications.
