Job Description

In this role you will assist the Head of Vaccines, in delivering the strategic medical plan for the allocated therapy area(s) and work in partnership with them to deliver operational excellence of the UK and Ireland (UKI) medical affairs team. You will contribute to the development and implementation of our strategic planning for the UK by providing medical insight and applying expert knowledge about the pipeline product and/or disease area. You will also identify, develop and maintain credible relationships with healthcare professionals, providers and academic centres and advocate cross functional partnership across the business in the delivery of company and team objectives. You will maintain integrity and ethical standards for the organisation, always acting by example and function in a non-promotional capacity for 100% of the time spent in role.

The Role Purpose

  • Be the medical expert and represents the Medical Department to provide fair, balanced, non-promotional and unbiased medical and scientific assistance in relation to specific requests from healthcare professionals (HCPs) for further information on our product portfolio, clinical development program, or disease area(s) of interest.
  • Identify, develop and maintain professional and credible relationships with the health care community, especially Scientific experts and academic centres, in the relevant disease area(s) and in partnership with relevant internal functions deliver improved patient outcomes in a given disease area.
  • Participate in the development of the Medical Affairs Plans (MAPs) and implement tactics identified in the MAP that align with the Company’s therapeutic areas of interest.
  • Work cross functionally and undertake the delivery of specific (or assist the delivery of) projects in the MAP e.g. symposia, advice seeking activities, medical education initiatives.
  • In partnership with colleagues, facilitate the delivery of data generation activities (phase I -III), including the identification of suitable research projects, research centres, investigators and innovative methods to generate data.
  • Ensure that all activities and interactions are conducted in compliance with applicable local, global and national laws, regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct (including but not limited to the ABPI Code of Practice) company policies and accepted standards of best practice.

What We Are Looking For:

You would have a strong scientific background in medical or biological science, preferably a GMC registered doctor, GPhC registered pharmacist or someone with a PhD/Masters. You will be be self-assured in your communication and social skills with excellent strategic planning and organisational skills. You will be able to prioritise work effectively; balancing both long- and short-term tasks and be able to demonstrate previous excellent cross functional working and have a good working knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Pharmacovigilance laws and regulations and the ABPI code of conduct.

The defining skills, therefore, will be developed communications skills combined with the ability to strategically plan, critically appraise progress, and work towards implementing change with external and internal stakeholders to bring about impactful objectives.
