Senior Medical Writer – Value Communications & HEOR
Location: UK – Remote
About the opportunity
A growing specialist HEOR & Access consultancy is looking for a Senior Medical Writer to join its Value Communications / HEOR team. This is a hands-on role for an experienced medical writer who wants to do more than simply edit or quality-check content. You will be responsible for creating high-quality content yourself, leading writing projects from start to finish, and turning complex scientific and technical outputs into clear, compelling, client-ready deliverables.
The team works across a broad range of Value & Access projects, including systematic literature reviews, evidence synthesis, indirect treatment comparisons, value dossiers, value messaging, health economic and budget impact modelling, and other market access deliverables. The successful candidate will play an important role in raising the overall standard of written and visual communication across the team, while also helping to develop more junior colleagues.
The role
You will take ownership of the written output across a range of client projects, working closely with HEOR, evidence synthesis, market access and other technical specialists. A key part of the role will be taking complex technical material and developing the narrative, writing the content and shaping the final story - not simply reviewing what someone else has produced.
You will also be responsible for ensuring that work produced across the wider team is of a consistently high standard before it reaches the client.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and deliver medical / value communications projects from initial brief through to final client delivery.
- Create original content yourself, including reports, slide decks, scientific narratives, value communications and other client deliverables.
- Translate complex technical outputs from areas such as HEOR, SLRs and evidence synthesis into clear, concise and compelling client-facing content.
- Take ownership of the structure and narrative of deliverables rather than simply writing to an existing template.
- Work closely with technical subject-matter experts to understand the evidence and develop the strongest possible story.
- Review, edit and quality-check work produced by other team members, ensuring accuracy, consistency, clarity and overall presentation quality.
- Take technically strong but unfinished material and enhance it into polished, client-ready work.
- Improve the structure, flow, language, formatting and visual presentation of reports and presentations.
- Ensure deliverables are consistent with client expectations and the consultancy's quality standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve the way the team communicates complex evidence and market access insights.
- Support and coach junior team members on writing, structure, storytelling, presentation and overall communication quality.
- Help develop internal best practice around medical writing and client communications.
- Contribute to client meetings, workshops and presentations where appropriate.

What we're looking for
Around 5+ years' experience in medical writing, value communications, HEOR or a closely related consultancy environment
- Strong experience working within a life sciences / pharmaceutical consultancy or agency.
- Demonstrable experience producing high-quality written content rather than purely editing or project managing other people's work.
- Strong scientific writing skills, with the ability to understand complex technical information and communicate it clearly.
- Experience working with content such as SLRs, evidence synthesis, HEOR analyses, value dossiers, market access materials or similar technical outputs.
- Excellent PowerPoint and report-writing skills, with a strong eye for structure and presentation.
- Able to move comfortably between senior writer, editor and quality-checker depending on what a project requires.
- Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture and overall client message.
- Confident working with senior technical colleagues and challenging or improving content where required.
- Experience mentoring, coaching or developing more junior writers or consultants would be highly advantageous.
