Senior Midwife - Child Protection
We currently have a permanent vacancy for a senior midwife to lead on the development and implementation of safe child protection and wellbeing systems in all maternity services within NHS Fife.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide professional specialist advice and clinical case supervision to health staff within the maternity services in relation to child protection issues in line with local and national guidance.
- Work in partnership with multidisciplinary teams to ensure delivery of child-focused outcomes.
- Offer accessible expert advice and support to individual cases and promote evidence-based practice in child protection.
- Ensure that child protection health services are delivered effectively, efficiently, and safely within maternity services.
- Develop systems to maintain and develop the quality of child protection practice in line with clinical governance and risk assessment frameworks.
Qualifications
- NMC registered midwife, educated to degree level.
- Excellent team working skills with effective communication skills.
- Ability to provide leadership and work autonomously.
- In-depth knowledge of Child Protection.

- The unit is modern and progressive with approximately 3,200 births per year.
- Services include outpatient and community services, a complex care Consultant Unit, and an alongside Midwife Led Unit.
- We are developing services in line with Best Start recommendations, focusing on increasing our rates of continuity of carer.
- We already have teams established for birth at home, vulnerable in pregnancy, infant nutrition, and child protection.
