Senior Migration Consultant (VMware to Hyper-V)
Bristol - Onsite 2/3 days a week

£700 - £825 per day
My client, a local authority, is looking for a Senior Migration Consultant to assist with the migration from VMware to Hyper-V. This will be to support a large-scale infrastructure migration programme currently in its final delivery phase.
This assignment is expected to run for an initial six-week period, starting as soon as possible, supporting migration completion activities and post-migration stabilisation. While extensions are not currently anticipated, the successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of a complex production migration.

Key Responsibilities
- Execute and support migration of live production workloads from VMware-based environments to Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Work within an established migration plan and runbook, ensuring delivery aligns with the programme methodology and timelines.
- Plan and execute production cutovers, including validation, rollback planning, and post-migration support.
- Troubleshoot issues across compute, storage, and networking layers within a hybrid HCI environment.
- Collaborate with technical stakeholders to ensure migration milestones are achieved with minimal service disruption.
- Support post-migration optimisation and operational handover activities.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven hands-on experience migrating live production virtual machines to Microsoft Hyper-V from VMware environments.
- Strong experience with VxRail/vSAN source environments (or equivalent enterprise virtualisation platforms).
- Deep technical knowledge of:
- Windows Server 2025 Hyper-V
- Hyper-V Failover Clustering
- Storage Spaces Direct (S2D)
- Azure Stack HCI / HCI-class storage platform
- Experience using VM conversion and migration tools, including Microsoft migration tooling and/or established third-party migration platforms.
- Strong troubleshooting skills spanning infrastructure, storage, compute, networking, and virtualisation technologies.
- Delivery experience within the public sector or other highly regulated environments.
