Application Deadline: 2 October 2026

Description
We're hiring a Senior Model Design Engineer to provide technical leadership across wind tunnel model development, taking aerodynamic surfaces from concept through to a build ready for testing.
In this technical leadership role, you will take ownership of complex, high risk and cross functional projects, define the technical approach, identify risks early and coordinate the engineers needed to solve them. You'll sign off your own work within your area of competence and know when to escalate.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for complex, high risk or cross functional wind tunnel model projects from aerodynamic surface through to test ready delivery
- Develop and review complex 3D CAD models and assemblies, covering loads, interfaces, mechanisms, materials and tolerances
- Own manufacturability and non conformance issues, and use the findings to improve designs, methods and standards
- Own multiple Model Part Generators, directing their development and improving consistency across the Model Design group
- Interpret FIA Restricted Wind Tunnel Testing requirements, resolve complex configuration and compliance questions, and sign off work within your competence
- Drive improvements to model accuracy, resilience, repeatability and test readiness
- Lead investigations into technical, structural or delivery issues through to closure
- Mentor colleagues, contribute to resourcing decisions and represent the technical view in cross functional discussions

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
