We’re looking for an experienced Senior Motor Trade Underwriter to join our National Centre of Excellence.
You’ll take ownership of complex, high-value new business, build strong broker relationships, and help drive profitable growth. This is a pivotal role within Allianz UK’s ambition to become the UK’s number one commercial insurer, offering real influence, visibility, and impact in a fast-growing, market-leading team.
You’ll participate in the Allianz Global P&C Academy, enhancing your skills in underwriting, risk engineering, pricing, and claims management while exchanging best practices across the Allianz Group. Allianz Insurance supports professional qualifications, such as IFoA and CII, where considered appropriate for business and individuals.
This is a hybrid role will involve working from home combined with a minimum of 2-3 days per week in one of our offices in Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Chelmsford, Bristol, or Southampton.
Salary Information
- Pay: Circa £55,000 per year.
- Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.
About You
As one of our Senior Motor Trade Underwriters, you’ll
- Underwrite and negotiate new and existing Motor Trade business, including complex and higher-value risks, in line with Allianz underwriting standards and risk appetite.
- Develop and manage a new business pipeline, converting opportunities into profitable outcomes.
- Build and maintain strong, trusted broker relationships, acting as a visible and credible underwriting partner.
- Actively engage with brokers through face-to-face meetings, networking, and market activity where required.
- Achieve agreed financial and operational performance targets, supporting sustainable growth.
- Collaborate effectively with distribution, operations, and underwriting colleagues to deliver seamless customer outcomes.
- Providing support and guidance to colleagues on lower license levels, signing off referrals, and working on quality assurance.
- Deliver a consistently high-quality service, applying sound underwriting judgement and analytical rigour to every decision.

Essential Skills
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven experience underwriting Motor Trade commercial insurance.
- Strong technical underwriting and risk assessment capability, including complex or non-standard risks.
- Demonstrated trading, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Excellent relationship management and communication skills.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and decision-making ability.
- Good understanding of the UK general insurance market.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in a new business or growth-focused underwriting role.
- Experience working within, or supporting, a Centre of Excellence or national operating model.
- Responsible use of digital or AI-enabled underwriting tools to enhance service and decision-making.
