NOC Engineer – Network & Security

Location: Cheltenham, UK

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 2–3 days/week from office

Employment Type: Permanent / 12-Month Fixed Term

Salary: £65,000–£70,000 per annum

Shift Pattern: Rotational shifts

  • Shift 1: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM UK Time
  • Shift 2: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM UK Time
  • Shift 3: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM UK Time

Eligibility

  • Active UK Security Check (SC) Clearance / UKSV SC
  • British Passport
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced NOC Engineer / Technical Network Lead to support and lead operational activities across Network Infrastructure and Data Centre services.

The role will lead a NOC team responsible for network service requests, incident resolution, change execution, monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational support across two UK Data Centres and six manufacturing sites.

The ideal candidate should have architect-level networking and network security expertise, equivalent to CCIE-level knowledge, with strong hands-on experience across routing, switching, firewalls, load balancers, and proxies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational network support across two UK Data Centres and six manufacturing sites.
  • Lead NOC activities including ticket analysis, incident handling, workgroup management, and escalations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network incidents and service requests.
  • Support routing, switching, firewalls, load balancers, and proxy technologies.
  • Work with technologies from Cisco, Fortinet, Check Point, and F5.
  • Monitor network environments using tools such as Cisco Catalyst Centre, PRTG, Nagios, etc.
  • Perform packet analysis and low-level network troubleshooting.
  • Manage incidents and requests using ITSM tools such as ServiceNow.
  • Follow ITIL-based incident, change, and asset management processes.
  • Support P1 operational incidents and participate in scheduled on-call support.
  • Maintain and improve CMDB accuracy and network documentation.
  • Create, maintain, and control SOPs and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with Cyber Security, Application, Infrastructure, Linux, Windows, and Database teams.
  • Identify and implement suitable network automation opportunities.
  • Support service availability, performance, and continuous improvement.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

  • Active SC Clearance / UKSV SC
  • British Passport
  • Strong enterprise networking and network security knowledge.
  • CCIE-level networking expertise.
  • Strong hands-on experience configuring:
    • Routers
    • Switches
    • Firewalls
    • Load Balancers
    • Proxies
  • Strong experience in NOC / Network Operations / Incident Management.
  • Experience supporting multi-data-centre environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco, Fortinet, Check Point, and/or F5.
  • Experience with network monitoring and alerting tools such as Cisco Catalyst Centre, PRTG, or Nagios.
  • Strong packet analysis and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with ServiceNow or another ITSM platform.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Data Centre network architecture and infrastructure experience.
  • Enterprise network HLD/LLD design and documentation.
  • Experience presenting technical solutions to architecture/approval boards.
  • Network automation experience and an “Automation First” mindset.
  • Experience with Load Balancers and Proxy technologies.
  • Understanding of SOC operations, WAF, and Firewall logs.
  • Strong understanding of ITIL and service management processes.

Ideal Candidate

Senior NOC Engineer | Network Lead | Network Operations Lead | Network Architect with strong enterprise/data-centre networking expertise, hands-on troubleshooting capability, and excellent knowledge of routing, switching, firewalls, F5/load balancers, monitoring, and network security.
