Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• BSc, MIS or other IT-related qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 7 years of progressive IT experience, including at least 3 years in a networking role.
• Relevant IT, networking and cyber/information security certifications are advantageous.
• Exposure to international, high-performance or mission-critical environments is advantageous.
• Experience delivering complex work independently in high-performance environments.

Equipment and Applications

Essential

• Proven hands-on experience designing, implementing and operating enterprise networks, including routing, switching, wireless and network segmentation across complex environments.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise firewalls, SD-WAN and modern secure access architectures (for example ZTNA, SASE, Cisco or equivalent), including a shift away from traditional perimeter-based VPN models.
• Solid understanding of network security principles, including zero-trust concepts, network access control, micro-segmentation and secure-by-design practices.
• Strong knowledge of core network services and protocols (for example DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, QoS, Multicast and 802.1X).
• Solid network monitoring and fault-diagnosis capability, with sound performance-tuning and proactive optimisation skills.

Desirable

• Working knowledge of cloud and cloud-native networking (for example Microsoft Azure, multi-cloud and container/Kubernetes networking), including virtual networks, connectivity, gateways and hybrid integration.
• Familiarity with observability and telemetry-driven analytics to support deeper performance insight at scale.
• Exposure to, or a keen interest in, network automation and infrastructure-as-code (for example Ansible, Terraform or Python) to manage configuration, deployment, testing and validation at scale.
