Permanent Part Time Speech and Language Therapist
The Specialist Community Neurology Service provides care to people across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) with diagnosed or probable neurological condition. The Speech and Language Therapists within the team also in reach into the integrated neighbourhood teams and bedded units to support the management of patients with communication and swallowing problems relating to their diagnosis.
The Specialist Community Neurology Service is a multi-professional team consisting of Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, Speech and language therapists, Therapy assistants and admin staff. There are 9 current speech and language therapists within the service.
The post will be based at New Friends Hall in Bristol but the role will cover across BNSSG as the service requires.
Should you be successful in your application you would be expected to manage a caseload of people, seeing people within their place of residence, bedded units also also within the community, wherever their needs are best met. You will be expected to work both as an autonomous clinician and also for joint working with other members of the team.
Responsibilities
- To deliver specialist speech and language therapy assessment, diagnosis and treatment to adults with communication and swallowing problems most commonly as a result of a diagnosed neurological condition, frailty or dementia.
- To be able to line manage other members of the team as needed including peers, junior staff and students.
- To be able to assess and treat a variety of communication and swallowing presentations in the community.
- To have core skills in dysphagia management.
- To be able to pull in different skills and knowledge into your practice to provide care to meet the person's individual needs.
- To support relevant service improvement projects as needed.
- To support the learning and development of the team via supervisions and being a part of the In Service Training rota.
- To keep up to date with your own professional CPD.
- To be a part of the triage rota, advice and guidance and care home support.
- To support other system wide meetings as appropriate.
