The Opportunity
As part of the continued expansion of its Glasgow branch, our client is seeking a New Business Senior Underwriter in Property & Casualty (Mid Market). This is a key role, with responsibility for managing profitability, influencing the underwriting team and building strong relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders. It offers an excellent opportunity to drive growth, strengthen technical and trading capability, and help shape the branch's ongoing success.

Key Responsibilities
- Act as the face of the business when presenting propositions for larger Mid-Market and Mid-Corporate risks, drawing on industry knowledge and technical underwriting expertise.
- Work alongside Trading Underwriters to negotiate cover, wordings and pricing that meet customer needs and differentiate the offering in the market.
- Proactively build and manage a strong pipeline of qualified Mid-Market and Mid-Corporate new business opportunities through broker and client relationships.
- Lead and embed the large case management process for new business.
- Develop collaborative broker, and occasionally client, relationships across the region, taking full ownership of generating and placing profitable, self-sourced commercial business.
- Underwrite profitable new business within established underwriting controls, acting as a referral point for new business within the branch.
- Develop and maintain a distribution strategy and communication plan with key brokers to ensure financial KPIs are achieved.
- Handle new business cases between £40,000 and £150,000 GWP.

Skills and Experience
- Technical property and liability underwriting expertise within a commercial insurance environment.
- Sound understanding of the Scottish insurance market.
- Proven decision-making across a wide range of technical commercial underwriting scenarios.
- Coaching and development skills, with a track record of delivering results as part of a team.
- Strong trading ability, combining commercial awareness, negotiation skills and the ability to build lasting broker relationships.
- Pragmatic decision-making with strong analytical and numerical reasoning.
- Excellent risk assessment and risk management skills.
- Progress towards the Dip CII is desirable.

Working Arrangements
This is a hybrid role, with a minimum of three days a week (60%) spent away from home. That time can include working from the Glasgow office, visiting clients or attending industry events.
