A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior NPI / Manufacturing Engineer to join a global engineering business developing complex, high-reliability products for subsea telecommunications applications.
About the Role
This Senior NPI / Manufacturing Engineer contract offers the opportunity to work across the full product industrialisation lifecycle, from prototype development and process design through to production, equipment implementation, testing and validation. The successful candidate will work closely with Design, R&D and Manufacturing teams to develop robust manufacturing and assembly processes while ensuring products meet quality, reliability and production requirements. Please note, this is a 6-month contract position, inside IR35, paying £50-£60 per hour, based in Greenwich, London with a requirement to work onsite 5 days per week.
Responsibilities
- Lead NPI activities from prototype through to full-scale production.
- Develop and improve manufacturing and assembly processes for complex products.
- Work closely with Design, R&D and Manufacturing teams to ensure products are designed for manufacture and test (DFM/DFT).
- Develop manufacturing documentation, process instructions and production procedures.
- Support prototype builds, production trials and process validation activities.
- Identify and implement new manufacturing equipment, tooling and production methods.
- Support equipment installation, commissioning and validation.
- Develop and implement jigs, fixtures and tooling to support manufacturing processes.
- Investigate manufacturing issues and carry out root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Support continuous improvement, process optimisation and production readiness activities.
- Work with suppliers on technical requirements, equipment and manufacturing solutions.
- Support engineering changes and the transfer of products and processes into production.
- Ensure manufacturing processes meet relevant quality, safety and engineering requirements.
- Work across multidisciplinary engineering teams to successfully industrialise new products.

Qualifications
- Degree, HNC or HND qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related discipline.
Required Skills
- Minimum 8 years' relevant experience within Manufacturing Engineering, NPI, Industrialisation or Process Engineering.
- Strong hands-on experience taking products from prototype through to production.
- Proven experience developing and implementing manufacturing processes and production methods.
- Strong understanding of DFM/DFT and manufacturing process development.
- Experience with manufacturing equipment, tooling, jigs and fixtures.
- Experience supporting equipment testing, validation, commissioning or production trials.
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and work with mechanical tolerances/GD&T.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across Design, R&D, Manufacturing and supplier teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with mechanical engineering calculations and analysis.
- Materials engineering or material selection experience.
- Experience with adhesive bonding and surface preparation.
- Experience with precision welding or other specialist joining processes.
- Experience with FAT/SAT and equipment qualification.
- Experience carrying out machinery risk assessments.
- Knowledge of PUWER and/or LOLER.
- Experience within aerospace, defence, automotive, medical, subsea, telecommunications or other high-reliability manufacturing environments.
- Experience working with complex electromechanical products.

Pay range and compensation package
This Senior NPI / Manufacturing Engineer contract offers an excellent opportunity to join a technically advanced engineering business working on complex, high-reliability products used within global subsea telecommunications infrastructure. The initial contract will run for 6 months, with the possibility of extension. The role is inside IR35, paying £50–£60 per hour, and requires the successful candidate to be onsite in Greenwich 5 days per week.
