Locations: Hybrid working with one of the following as primary: Derby, Warrington, or Manchester

Delivering clean, affordable energy for all

Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) provides a British solution to a global energy challenge. We are uniquely positioned to become a world leader in SMRs and establish the UK's premier green export technology.

The Team

Our Fire Protection team plays a critical role in shaping the safety case and operational resilience of the Rolls-Royce SMR fleet. Working at the intersection of engineering innovation, nuclear regulation, and safety excellence, the team develops world-class fire protection solutions that support licensing, deployment, and long-term operation.

The Role

In this context, we are looking for a Senior Nuclear Fire Safety Engineer to support our Fire Protection Manager and the development of our Reactor Island design. Working as a key technical authority and potentially leading a small team of engineers, you will shape the fire safety strategy for one of the UK's most exciting clean energy programmes, helping deliver a safe, licensable, and globally deployable reactor design.

We'll Need You To

  • Develop and manage comprehensive fire safety strategies for nuclear facilities, ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry requirements.
  • Lead the production and technical review of Fire Hazard Analyses, Fire Safety Strategies, safety case documentation, and ALARP justifications.
  • Define and substantiate fire protection design solutions covering detection, suppression, alarms, compartmentation, evacuation, and firefighting provisions.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering, safety case, and regulatory teams while mentoring and developing junior engineers.

What We're Looking For

As you can see, this is a pivotal and highly visible role within our engineering organization. You'll bring a collaborative mindset, strong technical judgement, and a passion for solving complex safety challenges, alongside:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
