This post is fixed term/secondment for 4 months to cover a secondment ending 4th February 2027.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Nurse for Professional Standards to join the Corporate Nursing team. The role is 18.75 hours a week to work on specific projects. The postholder will play a key role in supporting delivery of the Nursing Professional Plan, working with clinical teams and Divisions to drive improvements in professional standards, quality and nursing assurance. The role will support the development and delivery of the accreditation programme, strengthen associated governance and assurance processes, monitor progress against agreed actions and metrics, and support the use of professional assurance data to identify improvement priorities. The postholder will work collaboratively across the organisation to promote high standards of nursing practice, support continuous improvement and provide assurance that professional standards are consistently maintained.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is a senior professional within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) and is a vital member of the nursing directorate team. They are responsible for supporting the Executive Director of Nursing, Deputy Director of Nursing and Head of Nursing Education, Development and Regulation in ensuring that the organisation meets its statutory duties for areas that are relevant to the nursing directorate agenda.

Key to the role is to contribute and embed continuing improvement within a complex organisation and lead on specific areas of work, to include but not exclusive to:

  • Implement and embed Ward/Clinic/Service Accreditation across the Health Board
  • Lead on professional standards for professional practice and behaviour to include policy formation and implementation
  • Contribute to the professional regulation of nurses and midwives in accordance with the NMC
  • Support the development and compliance to the Nurse Staffing Levels (Wales) Act 2016
  • Engage and lead on continuous improvement across the Health Board.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Masters Degree or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Management & Leadership Qualification
  • NMC Registrant

  • Project Management Qualification

  • Knowledge and Understanding of clinical audit, research processes and application
  • Knowledge of national policies and standards
  • Highly developed specialist nursing knowledge and experience

  • Extensive experience working at a senior level in a complex organisation
  • Significant experience of change management and innovation
  • Significant operational and professional leadership portfolio
