Senior Operational Communications Engineer
Glasgow, Scotland
£350 per day (Outside IR35)
6-Month Initial Contract
1 in 12 On-Call Rota
Paid Overtime Available
The Opportunity
We are currently supporting a large public sector organisation responsible for delivering critical operational services across Scotland. They are seeking an experienced Senior Operational Communications Engineer to join their specialist technology team on an initial 6-month contract.
This role will focus on supporting and enhancing mission-critical communications infrastructure, ensuring essential operational systems remain available, secure and fully functional.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert 3rd line support across operational communications platforms.
- Lead the investigation and resolution of complex technical incidents.
- Support the maintenance, monitoring and enhancement of critical communications systems.
- Contribute to system upgrades, lifecycle management and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with disaster recovery, business continuity and resilience planning.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers within the team.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rota.

Experience Required
We're interested in speaking with candidates who have experience supporting one or more of the following:
- TETRA or radio communications systems
- Control room environments
- Mobilisation or dispatch platforms
- Telephony and VoIP technologies
- Airwave or ESN environments
- VHF/UHF radio systems
- Satellite communications
- Mobile data terminal (MDT) technologies
- Critical operational or emergency communications infrastructure

About You
- Strong background in communications, telecommunications, radio or operational technology environments.
- Proven experience supporting business-critical systems.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Previous experience providing technical leadership, mentoring or support to engineering teams.
