Senior Operational Communications Engineer

Glasgow, Scotland

£350 per day (Outside IR35)

6-Month Initial Contract

1 in 12 On-Call Rota

Paid Overtime Available

The Opportunity

We are currently supporting a large public sector organisation responsible for delivering critical operational services across Scotland. They are seeking an experienced Senior Operational Communications Engineer to join their specialist technology team on an initial 6-month contract.

This role will focus on supporting and enhancing mission-critical communications infrastructure, ensuring essential operational systems remain available, secure and fully functional.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert 3rd line support across operational communications platforms.
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of complex technical incidents.
  • Support the maintenance, monitoring and enhancement of critical communications systems.
  • Contribute to system upgrades, lifecycle management and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with disaster recovery, business continuity and resilience planning.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers within the team.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rota.

Experience Required

We're interested in speaking with candidates who have experience supporting one or more of the following:

  • TETRA or radio communications systems
  • Control room environments
  • Mobilisation or dispatch platforms
  • Telephony and VoIP technologies
  • Airwave or ESN environments
  • VHF/UHF radio systems
  • Satellite communications
  • Mobile data terminal (MDT) technologies
  • Critical operational or emergency communications infrastructure

About You

  • Strong background in communications, telecommunications, radio or operational technology environments.
  • Proven experience supporting business-critical systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Previous experience providing technical leadership, mentoring or support to engineering teams.
