Senior Operational Risk Oversight Manager – Payments
About the Role We are seeking a Senior Operational Risk Oversight Manager – Payments to join our Second Line of Defence team. This role is responsible for leading oversight of payment-related risks, ensuring members’ transactions remain secure, efficient, and reliable.
As a senior leader within our independent Second Line Operational Risk Oversight function, you will play a key role in delivering the Society’s objectives by managing a team overseeing payments risk. You will provide senior leadership in assessing risks, challenging processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and aligning with emerging industry developments.
This mission-critical role ensures that secure and resilient payment systems maintain member trust and support seamless daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead oversight of payment operations across the Society, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency.
- Manage a team of payment risk specialists in conducting targeted control reviews and continuous monitoring of payment processes.
- Conduct in-depth analyses of significant incidents or issues, identifying root causes and delivering data-driven recommendations.
- Provide expert oversight on regulation, compliance, fraud prevention, and payment integrity.
- Work closely with First Line Payments & Operations teams (within COO), as well as Retail & Business Banking to ensure alignment and risk mitigation.
- Collaborate with ** Operational Resilience** and Financial Crime teams for a holistic risk assessment.
- Engage with senior stakeholders, up to Director level, offering strategic challenges and constructive insights to support payment system improvements.
- Represent the Operational Risk function when required, particularly in the absence of the Head of Operational Risk Oversight (Payments).
