Senior Operations Manager
We’re looking for an experienced and highly skilled Senior Operations Manager to join our senior management team.
This role is vital within our organisation, contributing to the vision and leadership for all the work we do to empower children and young people to have a voice, place and space in their communities and the wider world.
Your role will be to manage the Sheffield based element of our youth work and our South Yorkshire wide voice and influence projects as well as lead on several aspects of organisational development. You will need a detailed understanding of youth work principles and practice, excellent teamwork and communication skills, along with experience and confidence to manage operational elements which contribute to strategic development, service planning and staff development and wellbeing.
You will work closely with our CEO, Barnsley Operations Manager/Deputy CEO and Fundraising Manager and directly manage the Programme and Project Coordinators for our Sheffield & South Yorkshire based work as well as having cross organisational responsibilities for areas of strategy and development.

Job title: Senior Operations Manager
Reports to: CEO/Deputy CEO
Contract type: 2 years fixed term with possibility of extension should funding allow
Location: Primary base 11 Southey Hill, Sheffield, S5 8BB and also occasional work at our Barnsley Base – currently Wellington House, Market Street, Barnsley, S70 1WA
Hours: 30 to 37 hours per week (to be negotiated)
Practical Requirements: Flexible hours (to be negotiated)
Salary: Chilypep scale 33 to 34: £41,697.57 to £42,774.22 PA Pro rata
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities
We're looking for a skilled and dedicated senior manager with experience within the youth and VCS charity sector. Your responsibilities will be to:
- Lead the youth work teams including the Voice & Influence team, the Chilypep Southey Youth Club team and the Youth Welfare Team managing teams’ workload and wellbeing.
- Manage the supervision and professional development of these teams and any recruitment required.
- Directly line manage the Programme and Project Coordinators for these projects, developing delivery plans and oversee and monitor them.
- Provide clear leadership, direction, mentoring and support to staff and volunteers.
- Foster a positive, reflective and inclusive team culture.
- Alongside the Programme and Project Coordinators ensure you maintain high standards of youth participation and engagement across the work.
- Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead. Ensure that safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to and implemented.
- Promote a strong culture of safeguarding and risk management.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and funding requirements.
- Ensure programmes meet targets and outcomes agreed by funders.
- Ensure and contribute to effective data collection, impact measurement and reporting.
- Oversee and manage programme and project budgets.
- Ensure effective use of resources including funding, facilities and equipment.

Strategic responsibilities
Working collaboratively with the CEO and Senior Management Team to:
- Contribute to organisational strategy and service planning with particular oversight of the following areas:
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
- Participation
- Research (University collaborations etc)
- Environment (Impact, policies and procedures)
- Work with the CEO and external HR advisors to implement and follow HR policies and procedures.
- Provide support to the CEO and Trustees, including contributing to reports and senior management meetings.
- Support the organisation to ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements, legislation and good practice.
- Work with the Fundraising Manager to contribute to the fundraising strategy including contributing/writing funding bids and reports.
- Support fundraising and external communications where required.
- Build strong relationships with local, regional and national partners, stakeholders and statutory bodies.
- Contribute to creating opportunities for national influencing and networking.
- Ensure efficient, effective and compliant delivery of all organisational activities.
- Alongside the senior management team identify and drive improvements in systems and service delivery.
- Alongside the senior management team maintain and implement all organisational policies and procedures.
- Support financial planning and reporting alongside the CEO and finance team.
- Contribute to organisational strategy and business planning.
Qualifications
Specialist Knowledge and Qualifications
- Excellent understanding, in depth knowledge of, and personal commitment to youth work principles and practice including participation and empowerment models and practices.
- Relevant qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Education or Community Development (e.g. JNC recognised in the UK) or equivalent relevant qualification.
- Excellent understanding of safeguarding practices.
- Excellent understanding of project, people and resource management at a senior level including following HR and employment policies and procedures.
- Strong understanding of organisational management and development including governance, compliance and risk management.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work legislation, policies and procedures.
- Excellent understanding of the voluntary and community sector.

Experience
- Significant experience in a youth/community work setting (5+ years typically expected).
- Proven senior level experience of managing teams and programmes of work.
- Proven experience of working with vulnerable or at-risk young people.
- Experience of financial management including budgets and resource planning.
- Experience at a senior level of organisational management and development.
- Experience of writing clear and concise reports, research papers, articles and briefings for a range of audiences.
- Experience of using software packages for word processing, spreadsheets and databases, and Management Information Systems for recording data and HR processes. (Chilypep currently uses Lamplight and Atlas HR system).
