SENIOR OPERATIONS MANAGER
Role purpose:
ITP Aero UK are recruiting for a Senior Operations Manager to join our team in Hucknall - UK on a full-time permanent basis.
What is the objective of this role and what does it consist of?
You will lead a team of between 3 and 5 Production Managers and between 45 and 85 shop floor professionals. You will be responsible to ensure on-time product delivery is achieved at the right quality and cost in a safe working environment. Additionally, you will be responsible for the leadership of strategic improvements within a defined area.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead, inspire and coach a team of 3 to 5 Production Managers and between 45 and 85 shop floor operatives within a defined manufacturing area. In doing so, the candidate will be accountable for ensuring that customer commitments are met in full, measured against agreed HSE, quality, cost, delivery, people and responsiveness standards.
The Operations Manager will is responsible for:
Health, Safety and Environment
- Leads the HSE management for the area.
- Ensure your team is trained and compliant to safety standards, driving environmental targets and promote wellbeing.
- Accountable for area Risk Assessment. Conducts area HSE reviews. Owns and manages actions for HSE improvement.
Delivery
- Responding to and supporting the Production Managers in achieving the production plan, securing resources to achieve this consistently.
- Leading the co-ordination of manufacturing engineering, planning and control, and quality teams to resolve issues.
- Demonstrate a full understanding of visual performance monitoring across area, managing throughput performance dynamically.
- Facilitating coaching both operators and Production Managers to use and improve performance monitoring systems.
Quality
- Drive to zero defects. Work with all functions to reduce risks and drive product and service right first time. Ensure compliance to all relevant company legislative and technical policies and standards.
- Weekly Sustainment and 5S checks and improvement plans of area, including; cell basics, asset care, calibration.
- Leading and coaching problem solving (SCRA, 8D).

- Works with Production Managers to ensure resources are balanced in the area.
- Owner of strategic cost improvement initiatives.
- Maintains the area consumables budget.

People
- Optimising the capability and capacity of the manufacturing area by developing a flexible team.
- Obtain full understanding of skills requirements for area and implementing training plans to address any gaps.
- Clearly articulates and communicates the strategic long term view, stepping up to support and lead briefings with - or in place of - Head of Manufacturing.
- Communicates daily with all Production Managers and fellow Operations Managers to understand cell and site priorities and updates.
Improvement
- Leading and driving improvement programs to enable and sustain change, including cross site improvements. As such, the candidate must demonstrate a full understanding of Value Stream Mapping and an ability to coach teams to make improvements.
What profile are we looking for?
- Has a company wide outlook and exposure to different challenges, cultures and ways of working
- Has an understanding/knowledge of multiple disciplines demonstrating breadth of experience.
- Has a proven track record delivering improved operational performance in both favourable and unfavourable conditions, utilising cross-functional teams.
- Has experience of deploying continuous improvement methodologies such as lean and six sigma, ideally with Green Belt accreditation.
- Has management experience in an engineering or manufacturing organisation.
- Has attended higher education and/or leadership development programmes.
What are the working hours?
- Days – 37 hours per week working Monday to Friday.
- Shift coverage is a requirement in the role to support holiday or absenteeism within the management structure. The Operations Manager is required to support all the following shifts:
- Mornings: 6.00 am – 2.12 pm Monday-Friday
- Afternoons: 1.48 pm – 9.30 pm Monday-Thursday
- 1.48 pm – 7.00 pm Friday
- Nights: 9.00 pm – 6.15 am Monday-Thursday
