Senior Operations & Supply Chain Leader - Hertfordshire - Contract
I’m currently supporting a growing Defence organisation that is looking for an experienced Operations / Supply Chain leader to take ownership of a broad operational function and drive a period of significant improvement.
The organisation is looking for someone who can come into the business, understand the problems within the function and put the structure, processes and leadership in place to improve performance.
You will have responsibility across a team of approximately 25 people, spanning:
- Procurement
- Supply Chain
- Logistics
- Production Planning
- Quality
- Operational Improvement
This is an opportunity for an experienced Operations or Supply Chain professional to make a tangible impact within a Defence manufacturing environment.

- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of approximately 25 people.
- Assess current operational performance, identify weaknesses and establish clear priorities for improvement.
- Take ownership of Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics, Production Planning and Quality activities.
- Improve supplier performance, procurement effectiveness and material availability.
- Strengthen production planning, scheduling and operational flow.
- Improve inventory management, delivery performance and operational efficiency.
- Establish clear KPIs, reporting structures and performance management processes.
- Drive continuous improvement, operational excellence and cost reduction initiatives.
- Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks and recurring issues.
- Work closely with senior leadership to develop and implement the operational strategy.
- Manage and improve relationships with key suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Embed sustainable processes and ways of working rather than simply addressing short-term issues.
- Provide strong leadership across the wider operational function and create a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
