This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinician who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with disabilities. Alongside providing specialist clinical care, you will act as a senior clinical resource within the service, supporting colleagues through mentoring, training, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.

About The Role
As a Senior Optometrist, you will:
- Deliver specialist eye examinations for children and young people in special schools, adapting your approach to meet a wide range of communication, sensory, and behavioural needs.
- Undertake complex clinical assessments, prescribing, and clinical decision-making.
- Manage clinic sessions effectively to maximize access and deliver safe, child-centred care.
- Produce clear, accessible reports outlining visual needs and practical recommendations.
- Make appropriate referrals to health professionals and specialist services when required.
- Work collaboratively with dispensing colleagues to support effective spectacle provision and positive outcomes.
- Support the smooth delivery of clinics across multiple school sites.
- Build strong relationships with schools, families, and healthcare professionals to encourage engagement and participation.
- Contribute to service improvement, research, and quality improvement projects.
- Share best practice and support the collection of service outcome and impact data.
- Work flexibly within special school environments to meet the needs of pupils and the service.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
