Senior or Associate Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS)

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior or Associate Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) to join our growing consultancy. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of high-profile projects while providing expert cost management and commercial advisory services to our valued clients.

As a Senior PQS, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality quantity surveying services, managing client relationships, leading project teams, and mentoring junior professionals. You will be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, from feasibility and cost planning through procurement, construction, and final account.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of professional quantity surveying services on multiple projects.
  • Prepare cost estimates, feasibility studies, cost plans, and project budgets.
  • Develop procurement strategies and prepare tender and contract documentation.
  • Manage tender evaluations and provide recommendations for contract award.
  • Administer construction contracts and provide commercial and contractual advice.
  • Monitor project costs, variations, cash flow, and financial performance.
  • Prepare interim valuations, payment certificates, and final accounts.
  • Identify commercial risks and implement effective cost control strategies.
  • Deliver accurate financial reporting and cost management advice to clients.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional service delivery.
  • Mentor and support junior quantity surveyors and contribute to team development.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, professional standards, and company quality systems.

About You

You are a commercially astute professional with excellent technical knowledge, strong leadership skills, and a passion for delivering outstanding client service. You are confident managing complex projects, building long-term client relationships, and contributing to business growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered or professionally registered Quantity Surveyor (e.g. RICS, AIQS, NZIQS, SACQSP, or equivalent).
  • Ongoing commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Experience

  • Minimum of 7-10 years' post-graduate experience in professional quantity surveying.
  • Proven experience delivering consultancy quantity surveying services on medium to large construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of cost planning, procurement, contract administration, cost control, and final accounts.
  • Experience working with standard forms of construction contracts.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members and supporting project delivery.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent commercial and financial acumen.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong negotiation and contract administration capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industry-standard quantity surveying software.
