Senior Oracle Developer – PL/SQL

Alderley Park – Hybrid

£60,000 – £70,000 + bonus + benefits

I’m recruiting for a Senior Oracle Developer to join a well-established financial services organisation as they significantly grow their Oracle development team. This isn't a support/BAU Oracle role.

You’ll be joining near the start of a major four-year technology transformation programme, simplifying and modernising a number of legacy systems and migrating them onto a single strategic Oracle platform.

There’s also a much longer roadmap of migration and modernisation work beyond the initial programme, so this is an opportunity to get involved early and grow with the team.

What you'll be working on:

  • Developing and modifying complex solutions within an Oracle database environment
  • Working heavily with PL/SQL and SQL
  • Building and enhancing the target Oracle platform as new data and functionality is migrated across
  • Creating new database tables, structures and processes
  • Performance optimisation, including indexing
  • Supporting large-scale data migrations from legacy systems
  • Working alongside data migration, PHP and wider technology teams
  • Some Unix shell scripting around batch processes and file movement
  • Looking at ways to automate and improve repeatable migration processes, including future use of AI

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Unix shell scripting would be useful, and any exposure to PHP would be a bonus.

This isn't an Oracle APEX, Forms or DBA role – we're looking for someone strong at the database level with hands-on PL/SQL and SQL development experience.

The team is expected to grow significantly as the programme ramps up, creating genuine opportunities to progress into Lead Developer and wider technical leadership roles.

The interview process

The interview process is straightforward – one interview covering technical Oracle questions alongside competency-based questions. No lengthy take-home coding test.

Interested? Apply or drop me a message and I can talk you through the opportunity in more detail.
