Senior Palo Alto SME – SCM / SD-WAN Migration
Contract: 6 months initially + likely extension
Location: UK Remote
IR35: Outside IR35
Rate: £450–£500 per day
Start: Immediate
An established IT services company specialising in networking and security services is looking for a Senior Palo Alto SME to support a major customer transformation programme.
This is a high-profile, long-term project focused on consolidating multiple Palo Alto environments into a single Strata Cloud Manager (SCM) platform across edge/egress firewalls, data centre firewalls and PAN-OS SD-WAN.
The SD-WAN workstream is the key area of complexity, involving a rebuild and redesign rather than a straightforward lift-and-shift migration.
The Role
You will join the company's specialist networking and security services team, working directly with the customer as a senior technical SME.
The environment consists of approximately 1,400–1,600 devices, giving you the opportunity to work on a genuinely large-scale Palo Alto transformation programme.
You will be involved across migration planning, technical design, engineering, execution, validation and troubleshooting, with a particular focus on Palo Alto SD-WAN and Strata Cloud Manager.

Responsibilities
- Lead and support the migration from multiple Panorama environments into Strata Cloud Manager (SCM).
- Design and deliver the PAN-OS SD-WAN rebuild/migration.
- Provide senior-level expertise across PAN-OS, Panorama and SCM.
- Configure and troubleshoot Advanced Routing Engine (ARE) and complex routing environments.
- Work extensively with BGP, routing, IPsec/IKE and HA/failover.
- Develop migration plans, procedures and implementation approaches.
- Execute migration activities and provide hands-on engineering support during cutovers.
- Perform detailed pre- and post-migration validation.
- Troubleshoot issues and support rollback where required.
- Identify and manage Palo Alto product dependencies impacting the migration schedule.
- Work closely with customer engineering, project and service delivery teams.
Essential Experience
- Extensive experience as a Senior Palo Alto Networks Engineer / SME.
- Strong hands-on PAN-OS and Panorama experience.
- Proven Strata Cloud Manager (SCM) experience.
- Strong PAN-OS SD-WAN expertise.
- Experience with Advanced Routing Engine (ARE).
- Strong knowledge of BGP and enterprise routing.
- Strong IPsec/IKE experience.
- Extensive HA and firewall failover experience.
- Proven experience delivering complex Palo Alto migration programmes.
- Strong troubleshooting and cutover/rollback experience.
- Ability to work directly with customers as a senior technical authority.
- Experience working within an IT services, networking or security consultancy environment.

Highly Desirable
- Previous experience consolidating multiple Panorama environments into SCM.
- Experience delivering large-scale Palo Alto migrations across 1,000+ devices.
- Experience rebuilding Palo Alto SD-WAN environments rather than simply performing configuration migrations.
- Palo Alto certification such as PCNSE or equivalent hands-on expertise.
- Experience delivering professional services or consultancy engagements for enterprise customers.
