Senior Paramedic
St Helena Island, South Atlantic
2 years FTC available immediately
Total package value up to £66k per annum depending on experience and qualifications. The package is inclusive of International Supplement based on family status, Relocation costs and Pension contribution.

Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. The 23-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.
You will work closely with doctors, midwives, and nurses, briefing them when the patient arrives at the hospital and liaising with allied health professionals such as radiographers, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists to guarantee a team approach to a patient's care journey. Offering clinical advice to patients and other colleagues over the telephone, you will work in the general hospital or other healthcare settings on the island when not required on call outs to support the nursing and medical team.
You must ensure stock and equipment needs are identified and incorporated into procurement plans and devise strategies to source and replace obsolete equipment, or obtain other items, in accordance with identified funding priorities and limitations. Participation in the on-call rota will require shift work, unsocial hours, or night duty. You will typically work as a double-staffed crew as the senior clinician supported by an emergency care assistant or driver, or alone, using an emergency response car.

Holding a BSc (Hons) in Paramedic Science or equivalent, you must be registered with the HCPC or equivalent and have current ALS certification (or be willing to undertake). An experienced paramedic, preferably as a team leader or senior paramedic, you have recent A&E experience and are conversant with current professional issues in relation to paramedic science and changing trends in health and social care. With a background in maintaining and monitoring standards which have enhanced the patient/client experience of care, you are skilled in analysing and interpreting information to develop solutions or solve problems, and have the ability to define and use analytics to support decision making. Experienced in facilitating clinical supervision and development of students, you must have evidence of delivering training to peers within a classroom setting.
In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity, and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme, you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community, and capacity development in St Helena.
