Senior Paraplanner
The Senior Paraplanner is the technical engine room of our advice service. You take the output of the advice engine, the fact find data, and the rest of the case context, and you make sure that when an Advisor speaks to the customer — or when a plan is released — everything is in order, suitability is clearly evidenced, and the documentation tells a coherent story.
You are the senior practitioner in the Paraplanning team, working closely with the Head of Proposition who owns the advice policy and proposition. You set the day-to-day quality bar for suitability writing, lead on the most complex cases, coaching less experienced Paraplanners, and acting as the technical bridge between the Paraplanning team, the Advisors and the engine team.
What You'll Be Doing
Case work and suitability
- Lead on complex cases — particularly those involving pension consolidation, drawdown and multiple pots — preparing the case before the advice is presented to the customer.
- Take the engine-generated plan and ensure the suitability report supporting it is accurate, complete and reads well for the customer — clear on objectives, recommendations, risks, costs and the rationale.
- Run pre-meeting case reviews with Advisors, flagging anything in the fact find or plan that needs attention before the customer call.
- Support Advisors during the QA review of engine-generated plans, particularly on cases flagged for a higher level of review.
Standards, templates and tooling
- Develop and maintain the suitability report templates and suitability wording required by the advice engine for each customer circumstance. Being clear what disclosures should be generated and when these should be presented, in line with the House Rules. Ensuring any changes or template developments are signed off by the Head of Proposition and follow governance protocols.
- Own the day-to-day quality of suitability reports against the standards set by the Head of Proposition — and feed back where standards need to evolve based on what you see in real cases.
- Work with the Head of Proposition and the Advisor Management System product team on improvements to workflows, fact find prompts, and the way evidence is captured and surfaced.
- Translate findings from QA, audit and compliance monitoring into Paraplanner team training and case-level coaching.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Team leadership
- Coach and develop less experienced Paraplanners — running case studies, providing feedback on suitability reports, and supporting their progression and qualifications.
- Set the bar for what good paraplanning looks like in a digital-first model — this is new territory and you'll help define it.
- Triage work into the Paraplanner team alongside the Head of Proposition, balancing case complexity against SLAs and capacity.
Working across the service
- Contribute to advice policy and House Rules discussions — bringing the paraplanner's eye on what is clear, fair and not misleading for the customer.
- Support Risk & Compliance on monitoring activities, root cause analysis and remediation, recognising that paraplanning acts as a first-line risk control in our model.
- Be the go-to technical voice for Money Guides and Financial Advisers on complex queries, helping them stay clearly on the right side of the guidance/advice boundary.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Substantial paraplanning experience in a regulated advice firm, ideally including pension consolidation and drawdown cases.
- Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning (Level 4), with appetite to keep building qualifications.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK pensions, ISAs, investment products, and the tax treatment of each.
- A genuinely high bar for written quality — your suitability reports should be the kind that customers can read and understand.
- Experience coaching, mentoring or leading other paraplanners.
- Comfortable working with structured data, advice software and a digital case file — this is not a paper-based practice.
