Senior Paraplanner – Report Writing, Cashflow Modelling & Automation

Fully remote, UK | Permanent, full-time | £55,000–£65,000 depending on experience

If you have ever thought:

“I wish I could move away from templated suitability reports and spend my time communicating complex financial advice beautifully”

this role may have been designed for you.

We are looking for a career paraplanner who does not see paraplanning as a stepping stone to becoming a financial adviser.

You may have no desire to spend your days winning clients, networking or sitting in back-to-back meetings. Instead, you take real satisfaction from understanding a complicated financial position, solving the problem mathematically and explaining the resulting advice clearly, concisely and compliantly.

About Barnaby Cecil

Barnaby Cecil is an independent financial-planning firm working principally with senior doctors who have substantial private practices and US-connected technology executives living in the UK.

Our clients’ positions can be complex. They may involve NHS pensions, private-practice profits, company structures, competing retirement objectives, property decisions, concentrated shareholdings and cross-border considerations.

We believe the financial plan should sit at the centre of the advice.

Our WealthMap® process has three stages:

  • Forecast: understand the client’s current position and future trajectory.
  • Customise: model the choices, variables and trade-offs.
  • Optimise: implement the agreed strategy.

We now want someone to provide the technical and mathematical substance behind that process—and then communicate the resulting advice exceptionally well.

The role

You will become the technical production engine behind our financial planning.

You will work closely with our financial planners, taking a completed planning brief and turning it into:

  • sophisticated CashCalc and Timeline modelling;
  • clear comparisons between alternative scenarios;
  • technically robust calculations and supporting research;
  • concise, personalised suitability reports;
  • meaningful annual suitability review reports; and
  • a clear evidence trail supporting the advice.

This is not primarily an administrative or client-service position. You will not spend your day arranging meetings or routinely chasing providers. The role is designed around focused technical work, modelling, writing and improving how that work is produced.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Reports written for one person

We do not want reports that appear to have been assembled by selecting paragraphs from a library.

Templates can provide a helpful framework, but the finished report should feel as though a skilled human being has written it for one particular client.

Every section should earn its place.

We continually ask:

  • Is this relevant to the client’s decision?
  • Does it help the client understand our advice?
  • Is it necessary to evidence our professional judgment?
  • Is it required from a compliance or professional-indemnity perspective?

If the answer is no, we would generally prefer to remove it.

Our ambition is to make reports shorter, clearer and more valuable—not progressively longer.

Using AI without sounding like AI

We expect you to use AI.

You should use it intelligently to accelerate research, interrogate information, structure first drafts, check consistency and improve productivity.

But AI should make you faster. It should not make the report sound generated.

You will remain responsible for the accuracy, judgment, language and final output. Every technical assertion must be checked, and every report must retain warmth, context and a recognisably human voice.

We want someone interested in helping us build an excellent technology-supported reporting system—not someone who simply copies AI-generated paragraphs into a template.

What you will own

  • Writing personalised suitability reports and annual suitability review reports.
  • Building and updating complex client positions in CashCalc.
  • Creating and comparing alternative planning scenarios.
  • Using Timeline to support investment analysis and evidence.
  • Turning complex calculations into explanations clients can understand.
  • Identifying missing information, contradictory assumptions and weaknesses in an adviser brief.
  • Conducting and documenting relevant technical research.
  • Maintaining clear distinctions between UK-regulated advice and any specialist tax or cross-border input.
  • Improving our reporting frameworks, prompts, workflows and quality controls.
  • Removing unnecessary boilerplate and duplication.
  • Helping us produce better work with greater consistency and shorter turnaround times.

The person we are looking for

You are likely to:

  • be an experienced paraplanner with excellent report-writing ability;
  • hold at least the Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning;
  • enjoy technical research, calculations and scenario modelling;
  • be comfortable working with complex pensions, investments, tax planning and cashflow decisions;
  • have strong CashCalc experience;
  • ideally have experience using Timeline;
  • write naturally, precisely and with empathy;
  • be interested in responsible uses of AI and automation;
  • enjoy long periods of focused, independent remote work;
  • question information that does not make sense;
  • care about the difference between something being merely compliant and being genuinely useful; and
  • want to develop as a technical expert rather than move into a conventional adviser role.

You do not need to be the loudest person in the room. You do need to be curious, exacting, dependable and capable of explaining a complicated situation beautifully.

A technical career with influence

Although this is not intended as a route into financial advice, it is not a role without progression.

You will have the opportunity to become the firm’s authority on planning production, report quality, cashflow modelling and the intelligent application of technology. Over time, you could shape our reporting standards, technical systems and the way WealthMap® is delivered across the business.

Your work will directly improve the client experience while freeing our financial planners to spend more time understanding clients, making planning judgments and developing the firm.

Applying

Please send your CV if you wish to apply.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a paid, anonymised practical exercise. This will involve identifying gaps in a planning brief, explaining the scenarios you would model and improving a piece of suitability-report writing.

We care less about polished interview answers than we do about the quality of your actual thinking and writing.
