Senior Patent Attorney – In-House | London (Hybrid)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior patent attorney to join the Commercial & IP function of a FTSE-listed global communications business that has been at the forefront of mobile and digital transformation for decades.
This is a senior in-house role within an established patent team managing a portfolio of thousands of patents. The core patent work is well embedded within the business — what's new, and where the team is investing, is commercialisation: licensing, selling patents, and shaping the strategy behind how the portfolio generates value. This role calls for someone who can operate confidently at a senior level with both internal and external stakeholders, and who's genuinely energised by relationship-building rather than purely technical delivery.
What you'll be doing:
- Taking ownership of your own patent portfolio, including filing decisions, deadlines, and mapping cases to commercial goals
- Drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and working closely with outside counsel
- Leading proactive invention capture, including engaging directly with inventors to assess disclosures
- Designing and delivering IP communication, education, and training across technical, business, and legal stakeholders
- Bringing an external perspective — networking and building relationships outside the business to understand how others approach commercialisation

What they're looking for:
- Around 6–10 years' post-qualification experience as a qualified European and/or UK patent attorney, with solid in-house experience
- A strong track record of stakeholder engagement — this role needs someone sociable and proactive, comfortable building trust across all levels of the business
- Genuine interest in AI tools for patent drafting and prosecution, and ideas for improving efficiency in the role
- A degree in Engineering Science, Electrical Engineering, or Software Engineering (PhD preferred)
- Experience with networks, AI, or software patent areas is a strong plus; open source experience is desirable
