Requirements of the role
SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition). Sitting in the Payments and Digital Assets directorate, the Market Intervention department supervises and drives regulatory standards in payments and crypto asset firms.
The role of the payments services sector is rapidly becoming increasingly significant to the operation of the UK financial services system and beyond. This role presents an exciting opportunity for personal development and progression in this innovative, fast-expanding and technology-based sector.

Role Responsibilities
- Getting to understand how regulated firms make their money, assessing the risks this presents to their customers and the markets in which they operate and determining how the firms manage these risks to stop customers being harmed, for example through the loss of their money
- Assessing regulated firms’ compliance against the relevant rules and requirements
- Working with senior industry figures to change how they operate if they are not meeting the rules and requirements and in the most severe cases taking regulatory action to stop firms operating their businesses
- Collaborating effectively and closely with colleagues across the FCA, other regulators and law enforcement agencies both in the UK and internationally
