Key Responsibilities
Monthly Payroll Processing
- Process monthly payrolls for 500+ employees across four companies.
- Manage starters, leavers, and contractual changes.
- Calculate timesheet-based payments, including overtime, subsistence, and probationary sick pay.
- Process statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP, and other statutory entitlements.
- Administer court orders and other payroll deductions.
- Process shadow payrolls for overseas employees.
- Manage company car and car allowance payments and deductions, including fuel deductions.
Benefits & Pension Administration
- Administer salary sacrifice schemes.
- Process employee share scheme deductions and manage payments to the scheme provider.
- Manage pension administration, including:
- Auto-enrolment compliance
- Company pension schemes
- AVC deductions and National Minimum Wage compliance checks
- Employee age and eligibility reviews
- Complete pension uploads and maintain pension portals.

Payroll Controls & Compliance
- Carry out payroll validation and reconciliation checks.
- Review payslips and payroll reports prior to payroll completion.
- Ensure HR and payroll records remain aligned.
- Complete National Minimum Wage checks and liaise with HR regarding any exceptions.
- Produce and submit RTI information and issue P45s.
Reporting & Financial Administration
- Prepare monthly payroll journals.
- Complete general ledger reconciliations.
- Support post-payroll administration activities.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation.
Payroll Support & Administration
- Act as a key contact for payroll-related queries.
- Work closely with HR to resolve employee and payroll issues.
- Support monthly payroll control checks.
- Prepare supervisor bonus spreadsheets and distribute for management review and scoring.
Weekly Payroll Cover
- Learn and provide cover for weekly payroll processing for 200+ employees across three companies.
About You
We're looking for someone with:
- Previous end-to-end payroll processing experience.
- A good understanding of UK payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience administering pensions and auto-enrolment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good Excel and system skills.
- The ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive and organised approach to work.

- Experience within construction, engineering, or a similar operational environment.
