Senior Payroll & Benefits Manager

Location: Peterborough (Hybrid)
Contract: Interim Day Rate £500 - £700 per day
Duration: 6 Months+

The Opportunity

JSS Finance are working with a leading international organisation to recruit an experienced Senior Payroll & Benefits Manager.

This role offers the opportunity to lead payroll and benefits delivery for a sizeable employee population within a collaborative, commercially focused environment. You'll work closely with HR, Finance, and senior leadership to ensure payroll excellence while supporting ongoing transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the operational delivery of monthly payroll across multiple UK business units.
  • Ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing.
  • Manage relationships with external payroll providers and benefit partners.
  • Oversee employee benefits administration including pensions, healthcare, life assurance, and salary sacrifice schemes.
  • Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation and internal controls.
  • Support payroll systems enhancements and process optimisation.
  • Partner with HR and Finance to improve payroll efficiency and reporting.
  • Manage payroll audits, reconciliations, and year-end processes.
  • Lead and develop the payroll team while promoting best practice.
  • Support business change initiatives including acquisitions, restructures, and systems projects.

You'll be an experienced payroll professional who enjoys balancing operational delivery with continuous improvement.

You'll bring:

  • Significant experience managing large UK payrolls.
  • Strong payroll legislation knowledge.
  • Previous responsibility for employee benefits administration.
  • Experience managing third-party payroll providers.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across HR, Finance, and senior leadership.
  • Systems experience including Workday, SAP, Oracle, or similar HRIS/payroll platforms.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving capability.
  • Previous experience within a large, multi-site organisation would be highly beneficial.
