Senior Payroll Officer

£45,000 | Hybrid | Multi-Site Organisation

We are exclusively partnering with a growing, multi-site organisation to recruit a Senior Payroll Officer to join their established finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who is ready to take the next step in their career and develop towards a Payroll Manager position.

You will take ownership of the payroll process for a workforce of approximately 300-500 employees, with headcount expected to continue increasing. Working closely with the wider finance and HR teams, you will ensure payroll is processed accurately and efficiently while helping to develop and improve processes as the organisation grows.

The Role

  • Full responsibility for the end-to-end monthly payroll process
  • Managing payroll for approximately 300-500 employees across multiple sites
  • Processing payroll accurately and within strict deadlines
  • Using Sage Payroll to manage and process payroll
  • Ensuring compliance with PAYE, National Insurance, pensions and statutory requirements
  • Managing starters, leavers, changes, deductions and adjustments
  • Completing payroll reconciliations and resolving discrepancies
  • Responding to payroll queries from employees and internal stakeholders
  • Working closely with HR and Finance to ensure payroll information is accurate
  • Supporting the development and improvement of payroll processes
  • Helping to develop the payroll function as the workforce continues to grow

About You

We are looking for an experienced payroll professional who is confident managing a sizeable workforce and comfortable taking ownership of the payroll process.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong end-to-end payroll experience
  • Experience processing payroll for 300+ employees
  • Sage Payroll experience
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory requirements
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • The confidence to work independently and take ownership
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A genuine interest in progressing into payroll management

This role has been created with progression firmly in mind. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their responsibilities organically as the organisation grows, with the long-term plan being to progress into a Payroll Manager position.

As the workforce increases, so will the scope and responsibility of the role, giving you the opportunity to shape and grow the payroll function rather than simply stepping into an established management position.
