Senior Payroll Officer
EA First is working exclusively with a well established Not-for-Profit organisation in Birmingham to recruit a part-time Senior Payroll Officer. This is a standalone payroll position with full ownership of an interesting and varied payroll. We are looking for an experienced payroll professional who is confident operating autonomously and has the technical knowledge and attention to detail to ensure an accurate and reliable payroll service.
About the Role
Our client is a Birmingham based Not-for-Profit organisation with a diverse workforce made up of permanent employees alongside casual staff, the organisation provides a fast paced and varied working environment. Employing approximately 250 people through its payroll, it has a strong presence within the city.
You will take responsibility for the end to end payroll for approximately 250 permanent and casual employees, covering both monthly and weekly payrolls.
The payroll is more varied than a typical 250 person organisation, with different rates of pay, casual workers and weekly payments adding additional complexity.
Responsibilities
- Full ownership of the end to end payroll process.
- Processing monthly payroll for permanent employees.
- Managing weekly payroll for casual staff.
- Processing varying rates of pay and split payments.
- Ensuring all payroll amendments, including salary changes, are accurately reflected.
- Managing SSP, maternity and other statutory pay calculations.
- Administration of the organisation's workplace pension scheme.
- Completing payroll reconciliations and checks to ensure accuracy.
- Working with the HR team to ensure employee information is correctly reflected across payroll and HR systems.
- Identifying discrepancies between HR and payroll data and resolving issues before payroll completion.
- Acting as the organisation's payroll expert and taking ownership of any payroll queries.

Requirements
We are looking for an experienced payroll professional who is comfortable taking complete ownership of a standalone payroll function.
You will ideally have:
- CIPP or equivalent payroll qualification.
- Strong end to end payroll experience.
- Experience operating independently within a standalone or highly autonomous payroll role.
- Excellent attention to detail and a track record of delivering accurate payrolls.
- Strong knowledge of SSP, maternity pay, pensions and wider statutory payroll requirements.
- Experience processing both monthly and weekly payrolls.
- Confidence working with complex or variable pay arrangements.
- Experience of casual, hourly paid or variable hours employees.
- The ability to identify errors and discrepancies rather than simply process information provided.
- Strong systems knowledge and the ability to work across separate HR and payroll platforms.
- Previous experience working for a small to medium not-for-profit would be advantageous.

Compensation
The full time equivalent salary is £30,000-£35,000, dependent upon experience, and will be pro-rated according to the agreed working pattern.
The organisation is considering approximately 3-5 days per week, completing shorter days if preferred.
Work Arrangement
Due to the nature of the position, this is an onsite role in Birmingham, although hybrid working (1 day a week) from home can be discussed.
