Job Description

Raymarine aims to be number one in the world for marine-based electronics, we have an extensive range of well-designed reliable products which include, Wind/Depth Instruments, Multi-function displays through to high end Sonar, Radar and Cameras, of which are state of the art. https://www.raymarine.com/en-gb for more details.

In the heart of all our products is the PCB which you will be responsible for.

On the latest Altium CAD tool, you will be working with a team of experienced PCB designers who have a broad range of design experiences.

You will be expected to fit into the team, use your excellent communication skills and have a manner that enables you to work closely with other members of the engineering team when time pressures prevail.

Your PCB skills will be well developed, enabling you to start complex designs from the outset. You will have the opportunity to design a varied style of PCBs from Flexi, High Speed, Radio Frequency, through to high-layer Micro Via boards all varying in size and all needing to be fitted into challenging mechanical moldings.

This job is for you if you have an excellent eye for detail, can multitask on more than one design at a time, like working in a dynamic fast-moving environment and get satisfaction seeing the completed product in the shops and on boats in and around the water.

Your job

You will be responsible for the complete PCB design process from receipt of the Schematic through to manufacture and assembly of the PCB.

This will encompass:

  • Creating new schematic symbols, PCB footprints and 3D models using Altium.
  • Designing complex multilayer PCB designs involving High speed, High Power, Impedance Control, RF and Flexi to agreed timescales and IPC standards.
  • Liaising with mechanical designers to ensure the smooth interface between Altium and SolidWorks.
  • Communicating with PCB manufacturers and assemblers to achieve best practices.
  • Supporting the Team Leader and other PCB designers in their duties.
  • Working closely with the Project Manager, Hardware, Mechanical and Test teams
  • Carry out the role in accordance with all relevant legislation and following Raymarine’s policies and processes (including but not limited to those relating to ethics, compliance, cyber security, product development, labour and human rights, and the environment.)
  • Undertake all mandatory training as requested

To be ready to take on this role we would love you to have:

  • Knowledge of Altium Designer 20+ preferable but not essential.
  • Be highly skilled in HDI PCB design.
  • A good background in electronics and mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in ‘Design for Manufacture’ and have visited PCB and Assembly Manufacturers.
  • Experience in EMC, ICT, and vibration testing.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Willing to work with the team in the office at least 4 days a week.
  • Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
  • Live within easy commuting distance
