Please Note

For candidates requesting to work in Newcastle, the role will initially be based at Benton Park View. It will then move to 1 Pilgrim Place in Newcastle city centre by the end of 2027.

For candidates requesting to work in Sheffield King’s Court, please note these roles will initially be based at King’s Court and then move to 1 West Bar by early 2028.

As part of the role, you may be required to travel regularly to the other digital hubs. The frequency of this will be discussed further should you be successful.

Job Summary

As a Senior Performance Analyst, you set the highest standards in quality analysis to ensure services that meet the Government’s Digital by Default Service Standard.

You are responsible for delivering high-quality and innovative analysis in relation to digital services and maximising the value of the Department’s data and contributing to the development of new skills and procedures within the Performance Analyst community.

The key purpose of this role is to deliver and improve data collection, performance reporting and analytical insight for the digital services.

You provide analysis, tell data stories and build relationships that drive evidence based decision making and create/maintain a data-driven performance culture for the Department’s digital services.

Job Description

  • Work with service teams to translate business requirements into clear analytical questions and deliver data driven solutions that support decision making and service improvement.
  • Lead the collection, analysis and interpretation of digital performance data, providing actionable insights and compelling narratives to inform user centred design and product development.
  • Develop, configure and assure digital analytics solutions, ensuring high quality data collection, reporting and compliance with departmental and statistical standards.
  • Design and evaluate experiments, including A/B and multivariate testing, ensuring findings are robust, evidence based and statistically valid.
  • Identify, integrate and exploit new data sources, technologies and analytical techniques to enhance insight generation and maximise the value of digital analytics.
  • Provide expert advice and constructive challenge to stakeholders, helping teams refine analytical requirements and make informed strategic and operational decisions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and analytical professions to maintain data integrity, resolve reporting issues and promote the effective use of performance analytics.
  • Establish and promote best practice across digital performance analytics, driving continuous improvement, innovation and a culture of learning and evidence based decision making.

Hybrid Working

This role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work.

Salary Information

Pay for this role is from £57,946 to £75,497.

The maximum salary for the grade is £68,205, however a Digital Allowance of up to £7,292 per annum is available for exceptional candidates. Digital Allowance is non-salary, and non-pensionable, and is classed as a temporary allowance. It is reviewed annually where it could be retained, amended, or removed.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer will maintain their current substantive salary.

Civil Servants who gain promotion will move to the bottom of the grade pay scale or receive a 10% increase applied to their current substantive salary, whichever is greater.

Your Application Will Consist Of Three Parts

  • A Personal Details application form.

  • Experience of working with Agile multidisciplinary teams to set measures and KPIs.
  • Experience of using web analytics tools to complete analysis.
  • Technical statements: (up to 250 words each). These include:
    • (Lead Technical Statement) Performance Measurement: Please tell us about a time you have worked with a team or teams creating a digital product or service to set Key Performance Indicators for the project. What activities did you undertake with the team to set KPIs that align to the goals of the project?
    • Communicating Analysis and Insight: Please tell us about a time you have influenced a team, creating a digital product or service, to make a design decision using data. How did you influence the team and how did you communicate your findings?
    • SQL Coding Experience: The coding software we use involves a processing cost to the department. Can you tell us what steps can be taken to make SQL queries more efficient and/or run at a lower cost?

Ensure that all examples provided in your statements are taken directly from your own experience and that you describe the examples in your own words.
