Job Description AECOM has and exciting opportunity for a Senior Environmental Permitting Consultant to join our UK & Ireland EHS Team within the Environment and Energy business at consultant grade. You will play a key role in supporting the growth and continued success of the Environmental Permitting business in the UK and Ireland. Based within a specialist team but working as part of the wider AECOM business you would provide environmental compliance and permitting support across all industry sectors, through a combination of global framework agreements and site specific commissions. You would support AECOM’s clients from established process industries, manufacturing and power generation companies with the management of compliance requirements for current and planned activities. AECOM is also helping to shape the development of good compliance practice for the transition to a low carbon economy. This role would suit a Senior consultant with post qualified experience in environmental compliance and permitting. Some health and safety experience and knowledge of ISO 14001 standards would also be beneficial As our EHS Permitting and Process Safety Team, UK & I , and as we support hybrid working we are flexible in terms of base location. This position can be based from our offices in Chesterfield, Manchester or Nottingham. Here’s what you’ll do: Environmental Permitting Deliver Environmental Permit applications, variations, transfers, and surrenders for a variety of clients across the UK and Ireland. Environmental Assessment & Risk Management Conduct environmental risk assessments to identify potential environmental impacts and risks. Develop and implement mitigation measures and management plans to minimise impacts and enhance performance. Compliance & Regulatory Advisory Advise clients on the implications of legislation, regulatory guidance, and Best Available Techniques (BAT). Ensure client compliance with relevant environmental legislation, best practice, and BAT standards. Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration Support clients in regulator and stakeholder engagement. Work collaboratively with EHS colleagues and the wider Environment team to deliver robust assessments. Environmental Auditing Carry out environmental audits, including assessments of legal compliance. Business Development Contribute to business development efforts by building and maintaining relationships with new and existing clients. Help expand AECOM’s compliance and permitting service offerings. Quality and Technical Assurance Conduct quality assurance and technical reviews of work completed by team members to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards. Mentorship and Professional Development Mentor and support the growth of junior team members and emerging professionals in the field of permitting and compliance. Qualifications Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for: Education A base first degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering or science discipline. Experience Demonstrable experience in an industrial or consultancy role. A strong track record in successfully delivering Environmental Permitting compliance services and preparing the associated documentation. Technical Knowledge Extensive working knowledge of relevant UK National and European environmental legislation. Skills Excellent report writing, technical reviewing, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team across a range of projects, including those with tight deadlines. Personal Attributes Proactive and positive attitude with strong team collaboration skills. Confident in liaising with colleagues, industrial clients, and regulators.
