The Role
Glasgow City HSCP (Northeast Locality) is offering a fixed-term pharmacy role working within the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHS GGC) Primary Care Pharmacy Team. The post involves working closely with GPs and multidisciplinary primary care teams to improve medicines management, deliver excellent patient care, and support the delivery of the pharmacotherapy service as part of the GP contract.
This is a patient-facing role that includes developing and managing a clinical caseload, providing prescribing support, and contributing to the Achieving Excellence strategy. Applicants should be qualified independent prescribers or willing to work towards this qualification.
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Duration: One-year fixed-term post.
- Part-time: 28.8 hours
- Base Location: Glasgow City HSCP, Northeast Locality.
- Work Settings: GP practices, care homes, and other healthcare settings across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
- Travel: Regular travel between GP practices and care homes is required to fulfil the duties of the post.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver the pharmacotherapy service as part of the GP contract.
- Support patients with the safe and effective use of medicines.
- Develop and manage an independent clinical caseload.
- Work collaboratively with:
- GPs
- Practice staff
- Community pharmacists
- Care home staff
- Primary healthcare teams
- Central pharmacy team colleagues
- Promote high-quality, safe, cost-effective, evidence-based prescribing.
- Provide individualised clinical care through patient clinics.
- Prescribe medicines where appropriate.
- Participate in joint projects and initiatives within the HSCP.
- Promote awareness of prescribing management issues.
- Contribute to improving the quality and cost-effectiveness of prescribing and medicines use across NHS GGC.
- Work autonomously while also contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job
Essential Requirements
- Master's Degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent).
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Independent Prescriber qualification, or willingness to work towards achieving it.
- Post-registration pharmacy experience.
- Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Sound clinical knowledge.
- Good IT skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience of working directly with primary care teams.
- Knowledge of GP clinical systems.
Additional Requirements
- PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland Check.
- Ability to travel between healthcare locations as required by the role.
