Band 5 Senior Pharmacy Technician – Patient Services (Outpatient)

This post is based on Barnet Hospital of the Royal Free Hospital Trust. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and adaptable Pharmacy Technician with good communication and interpersonal skills to take on this challenging post. Your role will involve working with Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and other health care professionals on providing Medicines Management services at ward level.

Responsibilities

• Support outpatient pharmacists to issue out medicines to patients as per trust's policies.
• Support the day-to-day coordination of the outpatient pharmacy by checking medicines for outpatient prescriptions, patient counselling, and co-ordination of the supply of medicines to our patients.
• Support the co-ordination of the dispensary staff and workflow to provide a high quality and efficient patient-orientated service.
• Participate in the supply of medicines to inpatients, outpatients, wards, and departments under the supervision of a pharmacist.
• Responsible for and organise the day-to-day running of the Out-patient pharmacy.
• Monitor, develop, and deliver the technical elements of the pharmaceutical service for patients in accordance with objectives set by the Chief Technician – Patient Services.
• Oversee the ordering of medicines, ensuring safe, appropriate supply of stock to the wards, and stock control throughout the dispensary.
• Support training and staff development by acting as a mentor/trainer for NVQ qualifications, in-house, and external training/accreditation.
• Line manage pharmacy support workers, and act as an Educational Supervisor and Practice Supervisor for trainee pharmacy professionals in the dispensary and on the wards.
• Implement and be involved in EDC and control drug room daily management, medicine management initiatives, ensure the cost-effective use of medicines, and assist in the implementation of cost saving initiatives.
