About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior PHP Developer to join our client's engineering team in Hertfordshire. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a forward-thinking technology business that specializes in large-scale web applications. Qualifications

  • Strong background in PHP development, with a focus on practical, hands-on experience in building robust web applications.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases such as MySQL or MariaDB.
  • Proficiency in front-end technologies like HTML, JavaScript, CSS.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based development environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to write clean, secure, and scalable code.
  • Experience working independently and within a team.
  • Proactive approach to troubleshooting and continuous improvement.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of caching technologies.
  • Experience with distributed storage solutions.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices.
  • Understanding of SEO and large-scale web platform architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize PHP-based web applications, ensuring high standards of code quality and security.
  • Design and optimize database schemas to support application performance and scalability.
  • Build new features and enhance existing functionalities to improve user experience and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and quality assurance activities to uphold best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application and production issues promptly, minimizing downtime and impact.
  • Create comprehensive technical documentation to support ongoing maintenance and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and technical strategy discussions to align with business goals.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including refactoring code and optimizing development processes.
  • Work closely with QA teams, support staff, and other developers to ensure seamless project delivery and deployment.
