About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior PHP Developer to join our client's dynamic engineering team based in Hertfordshire. This hybrid role offers an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale web applications that are vital to the company's operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in PHP development with proven experience in building robust applications without heavy reliance on frameworks. You should have a solid understanding of relational databases such as MySQL or MariaDB, along with proficiency in front-end technologies including HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and web application architecture. Experience working within Linux-based development environments is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a strong grasp of secure coding principles, software engineering best practices, and the ability to design scalable systems optimized for performance. Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and effective communication are vital. Desirable qualifications include experience with caching and performance optimization technologies, knowledge of distributed storage solutions, familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, and an understanding of SEO and large-scale web platform management.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance PHP-based web applications to meet evolving business needs.
- Write clean, secure, and scalable code adhering to industry best practices and coding standards.
- Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and application performance to ensure efficiency and reliability.
- Build new features and improve existing functionalities across the company's platforms.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and quality assurance activities to maintain high standards of code quality.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
- Troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve application and production issues promptly.
- Produce comprehensive technical documentation and contribute to architectural decisions and system designs.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including refactoring, process enhancements, and automation efforts.
- Work closely with development, QA, and support teams to ensure successful project delivery and deployment.
