About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior PHP Developer to join our client's dynamic engineering team based in Hertfordshire, with a hybrid working model requiring two days onsite. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on large-scale web applications, contribute to the enhancement of existing platforms, and play a vital role in the development of business-critical systems. Qualifications

  • Strong background in PHP development with extensive hands-on experience working without reliance on frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases such as MySQL or MariaDB.
  • Proficiency in web technologies including HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • Experience working within Linux-based development environments, demonstrating familiarity with server management and command-line operations.
  • Good grasp of secure coding principles, software engineering best practices, and the ability to design scalable, high-performance systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Desirable attributes:
    • Experience with caching technologies, distributed storage solutions, CI/CD processes.
    • Knowledge of SEO and large-scale web platform management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance PHP-based web applications to meet business needs and technical standards.
  • Write clean, secure, and scalable code following best practices and coding standards.
  • Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and overall application performance.
  • Build new features and improve existing functionality across the platform.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and quality assurance activities to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, provide technical insights, and deliver effective solutions.
  • Troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve application and production issues efficiently.
  • Produce comprehensive technical documentation and contribute to architectural decisions and system design.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including refactoring, process automation, and technological upgrades.
  • Work collaboratively with developers, QA teams, and support functions to ensure timely and successful project delivery.
