Job Overview
Bedford Hospital offers a rare and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Physiotherapist to join our Urgent Medicine Therapy team.
The successful candidate will work within the busy A&E department, as well as fast-paced clinical areas including the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) and escalation areas. You will use your advanced physiotherapy assessment and treatment skills to support patients presenting with a wide range of urgent and complex needs.
We are looking for an energetic and forward-thinking physiotherapist who is passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. You will play a key role in supporting timely patient flow, ensuring patients are appropriately assessed, treated, and supported to transition safely between hospital and community settings.
The Urgent Medicine Therapy team provides physiotherapy cover across A&E over extended hours. This offers an opportunity for flexible working arrangements for the right candidate, supporting a healthy work-life balance while meeting the needs of the service.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- Undertake the physiotherapy assessment and management of patients within the urgent medicine physiotherapy speciality.
- Determine clinical diagnosis or need and the physiotherapy intervention indicated.
- Hold responsibility for their own caseload, as an autonomous practitioner and oversee caseloads of more junior staff. They will ensure all patients are managed this using evidence based and patient centred principles.
- Assess, plan, treat and evaluate patient centred interventions. Deliver an individualised treatment programme and ensure the Physiotherapy requirements for the discharge planning process are delivered in a timely manner.
- To work alongside members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver physiotherapy services to patients within the specialities of the work place. This will include patients with multi-pathology and complex needs.
- To supervise, educate and assess the performance of undergraduate physiotherapy students as required ensuring the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.
- Access advice and support from a senior staff to ensure their clinical work is evaluated.
- The post holder will also be required to actively participate in the weekend/late rota for the Navigation team, working both independently and alongside support staff

- Physio Degree or Equivalent
- HCPC Registration
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous NHS experience in a rotational capacity in core specialities or similar position
- Previous experience within A&E, AAU
- Experience supervising junior and support staff
- Experience making autonomous decisions to expedite patient discharge
- Experience working with acutely unwell patients and ability to treat patients who require respiratory physiotherapy intervention
