Senior Planner – Industrial
Location: Within reasonable travelling distance of Northampton
Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Planner to join a leading main contractor specialising in the delivery of large-scale industrial and logistics developments.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the successful delivery of live construction projects and tender submissions, taking ownership of multiple programmes and working closely with operational, commercial, and pre-construction teams. This role offers the opportunity to influence project success from pre-construction through to completion while contributing to the continuous improvement of planning processes.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Lead by example, promoting high standards and best practice throughout the planning function.
- Support business objectives through collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Act as a role model within the planning team.
Planning & Programme Management
- Independently manage planning activities across multiple live projects and tender opportunities.
- Produce detailed construction programmes using Asta Powerproject.
- Develop programmes independently where required, without reliance on subcontractor information.
- Review and challenge subcontractor programmes to ensure they align with project objectives.
- Support the ongoing development of planning templates, systems, and procedures.

Tender & Pre-Construction
- Lead the planning function throughout tender submissions.
- Produce tender programmes, methodologies, phasing plans, logistics strategies, and preliminary programmes.
- Develop cost plan programmes to the required level of detail.
- Identify programme risks, opportunities, and innovative approaches to strengthen submissions.
Project Monitoring
- Monitor project progress and produce regular planning reports.
- Work closely with project teams to identify delays and implement mitigation strategies.
- Analyse programme performance and advise on Extension of Time (EOT) opportunities where appropriate.
- Produce supporting programmes demonstrating entitlement where required.
Commercial Support
- Assess the programme impact of variations.
- Provide planning support for commercial discussions and contractual claims.
- Ensure programmes accurately reflect procurement and design progress.
Stakeholder Management
- Maintain strong communication with senior management, project teams, and clients.
- Present programmes confidently to internal and external stakeholders.
- Build positive working relationships across all project disciplines.
Team Development
- Collaborate closely with planning, operations, commercial, and pre-construction teams.
- Mentor and support Assistant and Trainee Planners.
- Share best practice and lessons learned across the business.

- Maintain exceptional attention to detail across all planning outputs.
- Drive innovation and improvements within planning processes.
- Capture lessons learned and as-built information to improve future project delivery.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will possess:
- Advanced experience using Asta Powerproject.
- Strong knowledge of industrial, logistics, or large-scale commercial construction.
- The ability to manage multiple complex programmes independently.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Good commercial awareness with an understanding of programme impacts.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach.
Experience Required
- Extensive experience in a planning role within industrial, logistics, or large-scale commercial construction.
- Proven experience leading planning on both live projects and tender submissions.
- Strong understanding of NEC, JCT, or similar forms of contract.
Working Environment
This is a hybrid role involving a combination of office and site-based working across multiple projects, with regular travel to sites and the regional office.
