Senior Planning Engineer
Location: Stafford
Salary: £80-100,000 + package
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Planning Engineer to join a leading UK main contractor specialising in the delivery of complex and high-value construction projects across the country. Based on site in Staffordshire, you will take the lead on the planning function for a major £200m new build project, working alongside an experienced Project Director and site delivery team.
This is a key appointment within the project team, with responsibility for developing, managing and driving the construction programme from pre-construction through to successful completion. You'll work closely with the Project Director, Construction Manager and wider site teams, providing robust programme analysis, identifying risks and opportunities, and ensuring the project remains on track against critical milestones. Your input will be central to coordinating the delivery of this complex scheme and supporting the project team in achieving its commercial and operational objectives.
The successful candidate will be a high-calibre planning professional with extensive experience working for a UK main contractor, ideally gained on major new build projects. You will have a proven track record of planning and delivering projects valued at £100m+, with the confidence and experience to take ownership of the planning function and operate effectively alongside senior project leadership.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning function on a major £200m new build project
- Develop, maintain and manage the overall construction programme.
- Work closely with the Project Director and senior site team to drive project delivery.
- Monitor progress against key milestones and identify potential delays and risks.
- Develop mitigation strategies and work with the delivery team to resolve programme issues.
- Coordinate programme activities across construction, design, commercial and engineering teams.
- Provide planning input into project reviews, reporting and senior management meetings.
- Identify opportunities to improve sequencing, productivity and overall programme performance.
- Take ownership of the planning function and become a key member of the project leadership team.

Candidate Requirements
- Extensive planning experience gained within a UK main contracting environment.
- Proven experience delivering major new build projects.
- Track record of working on projects valued at £50m+.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and programme management.
- Ability to work confidently alongside Project Directors and senior site teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Relevant construction, engineering or planning qualification preferred.
