Senior Town Planner

Location: Cardiff Salary: £36,000 - £45,000 Employment Type: Permanent | Full-Time

About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established and highly regarded planning consultancy with a strong presence across Wales and the wider UK. Due to continued growth and a healthy pipeline of projects, they are seeking an experienced Senior Town Planner to join their Cardiff office. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious planning professional looking to work on a diverse range of residential, commercial, mixed-use, and strategic development projects while progressing their career within a supportive and collaborative environment.

The Role

As a Senior Town Planner, you will play a key role in managing planning projects, delivering strategic planning advice, and supporting clients through all stages of the planning process. You will work closely with colleagues, developers, landowners, local authorities, and other stakeholders to achieve successful planning outcomes. The position offers significant exposure to a varied project portfolio and the opportunity to build lasting client relationships while contributing to the continued success of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing planning applications and appeals from inception through to determination.
  • Providing clear, commercially focused planning advice to clients.
  • Preparing planning statements, appraisal reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Undertaking site assessments and planning policy analysis.
  • Liaising with local authorities, consultants, and project teams throughout the planning process.
  • Attending client meetings, stakeholder consultations, and planning committees.
  • Supporting business development activities and identifying new opportunities.
  • Assisting with the mentoring and development of junior planning staff.
  • Keeping up to date with planning legislation, policy changes, and market trends.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Town Planning or a related discipline.
  • MRTPI qualified
  • Previous experience within a planning consultancy, developer, or local authority environment.
  • Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and planning policy framework.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and project management abilities.
  • Commercial awareness and a proactive, client-focused approach.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working on residential, mixed-use, commercial, or strategic land projects.
  • Established professional network within the Welsh planning and development sector.
  • Previous experience supporting or mentoring junior planners.
